Murramarang National Park

Murramarang National Park is located just 10km south of Ulladulla. It covers 44km of coastal land between Kiola and Batemans Bay and is a haven for naturalists, birdwatchers and geologists. The pretty coastline features a mix of sand and shingle beaches and rock formations and the dominant feature in the landscape is Durras Mountain, which sits at 227m above sea level and makes for a challenging but rewarding climb.  There is also plenty of native wildlife to be spotted, including Eastern grey kangaroos, swamp wallabies, sugar gliders, blue-tongued lizards and an abundance of birdlife including lyrebirds and bush bronzewings.

Popular activities for visitors include walking, cycling, boating, kayaking, swimming and fishing. The most famous beach in the park - where many of these activities take place - is pretty Pebbly Beach, where kangaroos can occasionally be seen entering the water. There is also an excellent camping ground here with good facilities.

There are lots of walking trails to choose from, ranging from easy, 45-minute circuits to moderately challenging half-day hikes. Some of the more popular routes include from Pretty Beach to Pebbly Beach, which is steep in parts but offers spectacular views of the coastline and offshore islands; and the Durras Lake trail, which is particularly popular with birdwatchers.

If you wish to stay overnight in the park, there are a number of caravan parks to choose from and pretty camping grounds at Pebbly Beach, Pretty Beach and Depot Beach. The latter two options also offer cabins for rent, which have excellent facilities and offer wonderful views.

From the Princes Highway, there are various entry points to the park. Bawly Point in the north and Merry Beach in the southern section are the main ones. Roads in the park are unsealed in parts, but generally fine for conventional 2WD vehicles.
